Unwrap a roll of candy history. NECCO Wafers trace their roots to sugar wafers first made in the Boston area in 1847. Each roll of the Original mix offers eight familiar flavors—orange, licorice, clove, wintergreen, chocolate, cinnamon, lemon, and lime—with the crisp, gently dissolving bite generations remember.
Their paper-wrapped roll feels right at home on an old general-store counter. Try a flavor you have never liked before, trade favorites with a friend, or add a roll to a gift that celebrates America’s earliest candies. Why We Chose It
There’s a Reason It’s Here.
NECCO Wafers take our candy timeline further back than most of the bars on the counter. Their distinctive flavors and unmistakable roll make them a small, affordable way to experience a long chapter of American candy history.
Meet the Maker
The Boston Wafers That Became NECCO
In 1847, Oliver and Silas Chase began producing sugar wafers in the Boston area using an early candy-making machine. Their company later joined other New England confectioners to form the New England Confectionery Company in 1901. Its initials gave NECCO Wafers the name printed on the rolls today.
Spangler Candy Company now carries on the brand. The current wafers are made in Mexico under Spangler’s direction—a useful distinction between the candy’s American birthplace and where it is produced today.
