There’s a Reason It’s Here.
We chose Cooke Tavern because it brings together three things we value: family recipes, Pennsylvania craftsmanship, and a meaningful connection to an authentic historic property. These mixes offer the convenience busy households need while leaving room for customers to add their own ingredients and make each pot their own.
Meet the Maker
Family Soup Recipes Inspired by a Pennsylvania Tavern
Cooke Tavern’s story began with Mary Ellen Williams, a Pennsylvania farm cook and retired home-economics teacher known for feeding family and friends from her collection of homemade recipes. After serving her popular corn chowder at a local festival, she developed a dry version that captured the flavor of the original and founded Log Cabin Soups in 1991.
In 2000, Mary Ellen passed the family business to her son Greg and his wife, Mary Kay. They renamed it Cooke Tavern Soups after their restored Georgian-style tavern in Spring Mills, Pennsylvania. Built in 1808 and operated as a tavern until 1863, the property once welcomed travelers with the soups, chowders, meats, vegetables, and refreshments expected of an early American public house. Today, the Williams family continues that spirit of hospitality through comforting soup mixes created for modern American kitchens.
