Bonomo Turkish Taffy comes with an invitation: smack it, crack it, then enjoy it. The firm candy bar breaks into pieces when struck against a hard surface, then softens into a chewy treat as you eat it. That little ritual has made it memorable for generations.
Choose a favorite flavor, share the pieces, or introduce someone new to the candy that turns opening a bar into an experience. Why We Chose It
There’s a Reason It’s Here.
Bonomo gives the American Candy Counter something customers can do, as well as a story they can read. Its ties to Coney Island, memorable wrapper instructions, and present-day Pennsylvania production make it especially fun to include in our collection.

Smack It, Crack It: A Coney Island Candy Tradition
Turkish Taffy was invented in New York in 1912 by candy maker Herman Herer. The Bonomo family, already known for its Coney Island candy business, acquired the confection in 1936 and made it famous as Bonomo Turkish Taffy.
Later, the family packaged it as a bar customers could break into pieces themselves, giving rise to its unforgettable “smack it, crack it” appeal. After the original version disappeared from stores, the brand was revived in 2010. Bonomo Turkish Taffy is now made in York, Pennsylvania.
