Horn & Hardart began in Philadelphia in 1888 and opened America’s first Automat on Chestnut Street in 1902. Behind its little glass doors, customers discovered an innovative way to enjoy freshly prepared food, while coffee flowed from ornate dolphin-head spouts behind the counter. The Automat eventually became an everyday institution in Philadelphia and New York. Today, Horn & Hardart honors that legacy with smooth, approachable coffee roasted in small batches in the city where its story began.
