Born in Nashville in 1912, the Goo Goo Cluster is recognized as America’s first combination candy bar. Instead of relying on a single filling, the Original brought together caramel, marshmallow nougat, freshly roasted peanuts, and real milk chocolate—creating the wonderfully uneven, generously filled cluster that became a Southern classic. Choose the historic Original, rich Peanut Butter, pecan-filled Southern favorite, or the Cheerwine collaboration infused with the soft drink’s distinctive cherry flavor. Each variation offers a different way to experience more than a century of Nashville candy-making history.

Why We Chose It

There’s a Reason It’s Here.

We chose Goo Goo Clusters because they are more than nostalgic candy—they represent an American confectionery innovation. The Original helped change expectations of what a candy bar could be, while the Peanut Butter, Pecan, and Cheerwine varieties show how a regional classic can continue evolving without losing its story.

Meet the Maker

The Nashville Candy That Changed the Candy Bar

In 1912, candy maker Howell Campbell created the first Goo Goo Cluster in a copper kettle at Nashville’s Standard Candy Company. At a time when candy bars were generally built around one principal ingredient, Campbell combined caramel, marshmallow nougat, roasted peanuts, and milk chocolate in a single confection. Even its name became part of the legend—inspired by the first words of Campbell’s infant son. More than a century later, Goo Goo remains closely connected to Nashville and continues to turn its inventive original into new expressions of a distinctly Southern treat.
