The story behind the name
A Little of the Boardwalk to Take Home
Fralinger’s Salt Water Taffy is closely connected with the Atlantic City boardwalk. The brand’s presence in shore communities makes a box of taffy feel like a souvenir as much as a sweet. Its association with James Candy connects it with a broader Jersey Shore confectionery tradition. Individually wrapped pieces make it easy to share the familiar seaside experience, even when the beach is far away.

James Candy Acquires Fralinger’s
1991
In 1991, James Candy Company acquired Fralinger’s, bringing two longtime Atlantic City salt water taffy rivals under shared ownership. Both businesses trace their roots to the Boardwalk’s candy-making tradition of the 1880s.
Under the new ownership, James’ and Fralinger’s retained their separate brand identities and distinct candy formulas, allowing each name to carry its own history into a shared future.
